FLAVIA PENNETTA

FLAVIA PENNETTA has won six career Women's Tennis Association singles titles, all but one on clay courts, including back-to-back titles in Bogotá and Acapulco in 2005. Her first title was in 2004 in Sopot, beating Czech Klára Koukalová in the final in three sets. She and her Italian teammates Mara Santangelo, Francesca Schiavone, and Roberta Vinci beat the Belgium team 3–2 in the 2006 Fed Cup final. Justine Henin had to retire in the fifth and final match due to an injury in her
right knee, which let Italy win their first Fed Cup trophy.

She has defeated former world number ones and multiple Grand Slam singles champions Henin at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in 2005, Martina Hingis in Gold Coast, Australia at the beginning of the 2006 tour, Amélie Mauresmo at the 2008 US Open en-route to her first Grand Slam singles quarterfinal, Venus Williams, and former World No. 1 Jelena Janković at the 2008 Zurich Open. Pennetta is also one of only seven women to beat Williams three consecutive times.

In doubles, she reached the 2005 US Open final with her partner and friend Elena Dementieva. Pennetta is the former girlfriend of Carlos Moyà, whom she split up with after Wimbledon in 2007.
